sometimes i think about how i /predicted/ neteyam's death immediately in avatar the way of water because the shadow in foreshadowing was so clear and also i am just media literate then i remember how 911 has fucked with it a lot bcs wdym "i have nothiwaiting for me in la" or whatever the exact words was leads no nothing. yet. wdym "no offense but i'm straight" while refusing joy means nothing. yet. wdym "me? in love with my straight best friend?" "it wouldn't be so crazy" leads to nothing. yet. wdym "now the competition is out of the way" means nothing. yet. wdym "eddie's a renter and he's straight" leads by scoff by a gay man leads to fucking nothing. yet.

Yeaaahhhh. And honestly I’m NOT dooming, because I do still think they intend to go there eventually/soon. But that doesn’t negate the fact that the writing decisions they made to this point are baffling. I was actually thinking about this earlier today after @hyruling made a post about Eddie telling the El Paso fire captain that he’s single and therefore wouldn’t be pulled away by his spouse like the previous guy. The way that was set up was CLEARLY meant to be a Chekov’s gun moment wherein later Eddie WOULD get pulled back to LA by Buck. And then it just…didn’t happen. And that is BAD WRITING. Whatever they had to change around to deal with Bobby, there’s absolutely no reason they couldn’t have dealt with Bobby’s death AND had Eddie choose to go back to LA because of Buck. In fact, if anything, Bobby’s death set them up for that even more, because Buck clearly needed him, and Bobby’s death could have been a catalyst for Eddie realizing he needed to be with the people he cares about most because anything could happen at any time! And if they didn’t want to go full Buddie quite yet because they wanted to give room for the grief, they could STILL have planted those seeds. Eddie choosing to go back to LA for himself and for Buck didn’t need to come with an obvious feelings realization right away, but it still would have been the logical conclusion to the El Paso arc and the various Buddie moments within it, and would have signalled to the audience that they’re still heading that direction! It’s just sooooo frustrating, because as many have said before, sometimes it’s like they INTENTIONALLY make bad writing decisions, because otherwise it’s like…hard to believe they’re that stupid??

the 118 responds to a call and it’s somehow relevant for the patient to say that their significant other travels a lot for work and eddie says “i hear you man :/ buck and i were doing long-distance for a while last year and it was really hard.” hen mutters “yeah i bet it was.” chim gives eddie a Look. ravi does not react. buck probably slips and dislocates his shoulder again
